Kwara Central Senate Seat: I Never Showed Interest In Competing With Gov Abdulrazaq, I’m Getting Ready For Guber Primary Next Tomorrow-Senator Saliu Mustapha
Senator Saliu Mustapha, who is one of the leading Kwara State APC governorship aspirants, has urged members of the public to ignore media reports claiming that he withdrew from or was defeated in the Kwara Central APC senate primary on Monday.
The senator said he never contested the Kwara Central Senate primary election and could therefore not have withdrawn from or lost an election he did not stand as a candidate.
Senator Mustapha, who currently represents Kwara Central in the senate, submitted that he only obtained nomination forms to seek the APC governorship nomination ahead of the 2027 general election.
He added that he also made himself available for the party’s governorship screening exercise in Abuja earlier this month.
This clarification followed the circulation of a purported list of aspirants for the APC senatorial primary bearing the senator’s name alongside that of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The development had sparked confusion within the ruling party, particularly after earlier statements from government officials maintained that the governor was the sole aspirant for the Kwara Central Senate seat.
In a statement made available to Team@orentactualmags.com by his Media Assistant, Mr Nasif Sholagberu, Senator Mustapha urged party members, pressmen, members of the public to disregard any report or statement claiming that he participated in the senate primary election.
‘For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Saliu Mustapha officially obtained APC nomination forms to contest for the Governorship of Kwara State in the forthcoming 2027 General Election and not for the Senate.
At no point in time did Senator Saliu Mustapha obtain nomination forms for the Senate, neither did he participate in or undergo any screening process for the senate primary .
Senator Saliu Mustapha will be contesting in the Kwara APC Gubernatorial election on Thursday, 21st May, 2026’ the statement added.
The senator described the documents and reports linking him to the senate primary as ‘forged, fake, misleading and of no consequence’.
Senator Mustapha also challenged anyone claiming otherwise to publicly provide credible evidence showing that he obtained senate nomination forms or participated in screening for the contest.
