Orire LG School Abduction: NUT Issues Stay-At-Home Directive To Oyo Teachers

Orire LG School Abduction: NUT Issues Stay-At-Home Directive To Oyo Teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has issued a Stay-At-Home directive to teachers in public primary and high school schools in Oyo State effective from Monday, June 1,2026.

This was done in response to recent abduction incidents in Oriire Local Government , Oyo State.

Recall that on May 15, 2026, gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School (Esiele) in Oriire Local Government and abducted teachers, pupils and students.

Those who were kidnapped include 39 students, seven teachers including Mrs. Rachael Alamu, the principal of Community High School, Esinele, while two teachers have been killed.

The NUT directive is part of a nationwide action by the union, which also includes solidarity rallies scheduled to hold on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, across all state capitals to demand urgent government intervention and the safe release of the abducted teachers and students.

‘We have directed all Teachers in Oyo state to remain at home starting from tomorrow (Monday)’ President of NUT, Audu Amba, submitted.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that a circular dated May 29, 2026, which was signed by the National President, Audu Amba and Secretary General, Clinton Ikpitibo, also conveyed the directive to state chapters of the NUT.

NUT asked ‘public primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo State to withdraw services indefinitely from Monday, June 1, 2026, until the abducted colleagues and learners are safely released’.

In the meanwhile, Oyo State chapter of NUT has expressed readiness to comply with the directive.

In a circular dated May 31, 2026, which was signed by State Secretary, Salami Olukayode, the union formally asked members to obey the stay-at-home directive.

Oyo NUT lamented that the abducted teachers and learners have remained in captivity which has ‘created fear, anxiety, and disruption within the education sector, while also eroding public confidence in school safety’.

The union leaders urged members to remain law-abiding and stay safe at home while they continue engagement with relevant authorities for the safe return of the abductees-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
