Following the decision of lecturers at public universities in the country to return to class , the University of Ilorin, Ilorin on Friday announced that it was ready to welcome back students to campus.
It will be recalled that members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), had stayed away from class since February 14 this year and did not call off the strike until last week . They had accused the federal government of failing to meet some of their demands including, the release of revitalization funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, the release of earned allowances and the adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution.
Spokesman for the institution, Mr Kunle Akogun in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Friday noted that ‘ the University of Ilorin has concluded arrangements for the resumption of academic activities on Monday, October 24, 2022’.
He noted that the decision was taken during the meeting held by the university’s senate on Friday.
‘This follows the ratification of the amended Academic Calendar by the University Senate at its 291st meeting on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Final Year and Postgraduate students are according to the amended Calendar expected back on campus on Monday, 24th October, 2022, while other categories of returning students will resume on December 15th when the 2021/2022 academic session commences.
Also, students at the Faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, who were yet to complete their Rain Semester examinations before the commencement of the strike on February 14, 2022, are expected to resume on October 24th to conclude such examinations’ the statement said.
The University assured the returning students that measures and steps had been taken to ensure an enabling environment for learning while urging them to ensure strict compliance with the rules and regulations of the institution- Team@orientactualmags.com
