ATM ‘Good Samaritan’ Arrested For Stealing PINs and Emptying Customer Accounts In Calabar

A resident of Calabar, Cross River State, has been arrested for stealing PINs of bank customers in the state. He will reportedly pose as ‘good Samaritan’ ready to assist them to operate automated teller machines but steal their PINs.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that spokesman for the state police command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, who said this in a video posted on Facebook on Tuesday, noted that the suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, targeted customers who needed assistance at ATM points, ensuring that their cards are withheld and he will then observe them while entering their PINs before leaving the premises.

Eitokpah said the suspect was arrested on October 6, 2026, over alleged fraud involving unsuspecting ATM users.

‘I do go to the ATM machine to lie in wait for gullible customers who believe whatever I may tell them, and people that seek for help too.

So, if you call for help or assistance from me, what I do is I put the ATM on the cardless transaction mode and withhold your card. You’ll be thinking your card is inside, but your card is not inside.

And you’ll choose a transaction which you want to perform. It’s either withdrawal or transfer or inquiry. By the time you click on any of them, ask you to put your password, to put your password, and confirm your password, I will leave the premises’ the suspect submitted in the video in question.

Eitokpah added that the suspect allegedly memorizes the PINs of customers as they enter them, then leave the ATM point with the information needed to carry out fraudulent transactions elsewhere. The customers will later discover that their cards are missing and their bank accounts have been debited.

The police urged members of the public to remain cautious when using ATMs and avoid handing their cards or PINs to strangers offering assistance-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
