2023 : G-5 Governors Meet In Lagos , Insist They’ll Not Campaign For Atiku

Five among  the governors of PDP-controlled states , who had for months now expressed their dissatisfaction with former Senator Iyorchia Ayu’s  continued stay in office,   have announced the formation of ‘Integrity Group’.

Ayu is the National Chairman of the PDP.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned this was announced  after the PDP governors now popularly called  G-5  governors met behind closed doors  in Lagos on Sunday.

They have insisted that Ayu  must  resign from his position  while adding that they will not campaign for the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Governor Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) attended the meeting.

Former governors Ayo Fayose of Ekiti  state; Donald Duke of Cross River state; and Jonah Jang of Plateau state, former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George;  current Deputy National Chairman ,  Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja; Chief Dan Orbih, Senator Olaka Nwogu, Senator Mao Ohuanbunwa, Senator Nasif Suleiman, among others, were also there.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, former Governor Jang  said the window of  reconciliation ‘is still open’.

‘We have reviewed the issues in our party and we, therefore, stand on the position we took at our last meeting in Port Harcourt and we hereby reiterate our position that the window of reconciliation in our great party, the PDP, remains open’ he said.

‘We are here this morning to hold a meeting of the Integrity Group within our party, the PDP. You’ve been hearing of the G5 that is the five PDP governors. The G5 is all about the Integrity Group. You can see us, five serving governors, as the face of this struggle but the leaders and elders of the party that you see here are the people behind those faces.

We are this morning in the South West to review the situation within our party, to review where we are and to also look at what is going to happen in the coming elections. At the end of our deliberations, you will be fully briefed on where we stand on those burning issues. On behalf of our leaders and elders in the South West, I want to welcome members of the Integrity Group’ Governor Makinde had submitted before the closed-door meeting began.

It will be recalled that members of  the group had during the meeting held in Port Harcourt on September 20 declared  that they will not be part of Atiku’s campaign trail- Team@orientactualmags.com
