Adamawa NUJ Condemns Assault On Female Journalist By Ex-Husband In Yola

Adamawa NUJ Condemns Assault On Female Journalist By Ex-Husband In Yola

The  Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa state council , has condemned the assault on  one of its female members, Nafeesah Vandi by her ex- husband, Ibrahim Aliyu.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned the council  in a statement issued in Yola by its chairman, Donald Dedan and secretary, Fidelis Jocthtan , noted that  Nafeesah  is a staff of Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Yola.

The union described the beating of  such a practicing Journalist to a pulp by her ex- husband, Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu, a sacked staff of PHCN,   as a heinous act  while adding that it was  unacceptable, wicked and barbaric   .

‘Though the police have already swung into action by investigating and arresting the perpetrator of the domestic violence, the NUJ however calls for a more speedy action towards the immediate arrest and prosecution of the said Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu according to the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The union further calls on national and international organizations including FIDA, UNFPA, UNICEF as well as Civil Society Organizations that are propagating a total halt on violence against women to step into the matter for justice to prevail’ the Adamawa NUJ officials said.

Similarly, the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in a statement jointly signed by its acting chairperson, Villian Murray, and secretary, Rose Anthony Elishama,  also noted that it was disappointing that this was recorded  at such a time  that the  tempo of the campaign against domestic violence, wife battering, and other gender-based violence  had  gotten increased.

‘While noting with deep concern the  unwarranted assault on our member; Nafeesa Vandi,   we have joined others to campaign  against  domestic violence and cannot have our  member as a victim and do nothing about it ’ the statement said

NAWOJ, therefore, called on the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the matter until justice is secured for Nafeesa Vandi.

The union also appealed to the general public to continue to expose bad eggs in the society like Ibrahim Aliyu ,who, it noted,  had crossed the red line- Team@orientactualmags.com
