Awujale Throne: Ignore Olisa of Ijebu-Ode’s Viral Nomination Letter, Selection Process Still Placed In Abeyance-Ogun Govt
Ogun State Government on Thursday urged members of the public to disregard the viral nomination letter that was reportedly signed and sent to Governor Dapo Abiodun by the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, Chief Rasheed Adeoye Adesanya in which he had recommended names of five princes for consideration for appointment as Awujale of Ijebuland
In the viral letter dated April 14, Chief Adesanya reportedly noted that kingmakers, acting under Section 4(2) of the Chiefs Law 1957 and the customary law regulating the selection and succession to the Awujale of Ijebuland throne, had successfully picked five princes from which the state government can make its choice.
The princes are Prince Ademorin Aliu Kuye, Prince Isiaq Ayodele Adewale Adekoya (Eleruja), Prince Onabanjo Abimbola John, Prince Oluwaseun Waheed Omopenu Onanuga and Prince Olabode Onanuga.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the state government made clarification on the state of things in respect of the selection process through Governor Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Kayode Akinmade who has also urged members of the public to disregard the letter in question cognizant that the selection process has been put on hold.
He added that the state government had six months ago directed that the selection process should be placed in abeyance.
‘The position of the law is that the letter that will convey the decision of the kingmakers when it has to do with selection of king will be from the local government to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and not through any individual. The letter is of no consequence and the members of the public should disregard it.
As long as the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is yet to issue any contrary statement, it shows that nothing has changed with the position of the government on the selection of Awujale as it has been for over five months’ he said.
In the meanwhile, Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, Chief Rasheed Adeoye Adesanya has clarified that he had nothing to do with the controversial letter urging members of the public to disregard it.
‘I don’t know anything about the letter you are talking about, I am not a party to that, I am not a party to any letter. There are lots of people who may just want to tarnish my reputation, but I don’t know anything about this letter’ he said.
