Civilian Coup: Olakunle Oluomo Caught Off Guard By Colleagues…Impeached As Ogun Speaker While Attending Event In Abeokuta

Hon Olakunle Oluomo has been impeached as Speaker of Ogun state House of Assembly in what was clearly a coordinated ‘civilian coup’.
Oluomo, who represents Ifo state Constituency , was impeached by colleagues who accused him of gross misconduct, highhandedness, lack of focus and transparency, financial misappropriation and pursuit of selfish interests.
18 out of the 26 members of the house of assembly supported his impeachment and they have elected Hon Oludaisi Elemide, who represents Odeda state constituency ,as the new Speaker.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that this development came as a surprise to the governor , Mr. Dapo Abiodun, who has reportedly invited the lawmakers to Lagos for an important meeting immediately.

Aware that the governor was always ready to save Oluomo’s neck, they chose to play their cards close to their chest.
We also gathered that the lawmakers have insisted that there is no going back while noting that they will continue to support the Dapo Abiodun administration.
Sources said Olakunle Oluomo’s colleagues had since last dispensation grumbled and complained about the way he runs the affairs of the state parliament but he had made it very difficult for them to impeach him.
‘ You know that the governor will always plead that they should allow him to retain his position if he had been told about the plans to impeach Oluomo he would still have saved him from impeachment, but the man was handling things as if the house of assembly is a private company that he owns. He made his impeachment unavoidable.
To avoid impeachment during the last dispensation, he had the mace put in the trunk of his car after the plenary sessions and he did this for months’ said a source.
Sources said his colleagues decided to beat him at his own game, this time around.
Oluomo, who became the Speaker on June 10, 2019, had left to attend the swearing- in ceremony of the customary court judges at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto ,Abeokuta which is a few metres away from the assembly complex and directed the Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi , who represents Yewa South state constituency, to preside over the plenary session.
.
Apparently briefed about this development, Oluomo had tried to save the situation but it was too late to save the proverbial ‘omoye’ who had raced into the very heart of the market ‘naked’.
Adegoke Awoso, who represents Yewa North 1, moved the motion for Oluomo’s impeachment while it was seconded by Ademola Adeniran of Sagamu state Constituency II.
‘We are here to ensure law and order and we also picked up the information that arms were kept inside one of the cars at the Assembly Complex but it has been searched and nothing of such was found’ the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, who was at House of Assembly Complex, also told reporters while the house has adjourned sitting for a week.
Mr. Deji Adeyemo and Mrs Funmilayo Adeyemi , who are the Clerk and the Deputy Clerk respectively, also attended the plenary session.
Oluomo is facing corruption charges along with three staff of the house of assembly, having been accused of misappropriating N2 billion belonging to the state legislature.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had prefered charges against the former Speaker and three others in September 2022 , which bordered on conspiracy, forgery and stealing.
It was believed by many that information was released to those who sent petition to the anti-graft agency because the former Speaker ‘dey chop alone’.
After getting elected as new Speaker, Elemide has promised to support the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration.
‘We are law-abiding legislators. We want the world to know that there has been a change in leadership.
18 members signed for me to be the Speaker. People should remain calm. We are in the custody of all the authorities of the house. We are saying that the new leadership will support the governor.
The governor does not know anything about this impeachment’ he said-Team@orientactualmags.com
