Come Clean About Bags Of Rice Received From FG, Kwara PDP Tells NASS Members
Kwara state PDP on Sunday asked members of the Nigerians Senate and the House of Representatives from the state to come clean about the bags of rice received from the Federal Government which were meant to be distributed to their respective constituents ahead of the yuletide.
The party condemned in strong terms the alleged diversion and sale of the bags of rice in question describing this as unfortunate.
Recall that the Federal Government had taken steps to ease things for the citizens following the removal of petrol subsidy and its concomitant economic hardships.
Apart from the concessionary travel scheme introduced by the Federal Government ahead of the yuletide, arrangements were also made to make 1,000 bags of rice (50kg) and 2,000 bags of rice (50kg) available to each of the reps members and the senators respectively for onward distribution to their respective constituents.
In a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party cited a viral video that featured Rep Anamero Sunday Dekiri, who represents Etsako West/ Etsako East/ Etsako Central federal constituency, Edo state , in the House of Representatives, making a disclosure that he has taken delivery of the bags of rice made available by the Federal Government for distribution to his constituents ahead of Christmas and the New Year celebrations.
The state PDP has asked all the National assembly members from the State of Harmony , to come clean about ‘ the people’s rice’ , noting that it would be a shock of the century if the insinuation that all of them had allegedly sold the rice to commercial dealers in Abuja is found to be true submitting that this will be an unfortunate betrayal of public trust.
‘The concerned legislators, who are all APC members, are Senator Salihu Mustapha of Kwara Central, Oyelola Ashiru of Kwara South, and Senator Suleiman Sadiq Umar of Kwara North. Also, members of the lower chamber include Raheem Tunji Olawuyi Ajuloopin, Ismail Kayode Tijani, Ahmed Yinka Aluko, Tolani Shagaya, Adam Ahmed Saba, and Mohammed Omar Bio respectively.
The PDP in Kwara state, having patiently awaited responses from these APC legislators, notes with concern that their continued silence which is no longer golden, their unfortunate silence raises suspicions of compromise, suggesting that the bags of rice meant to be distributed to the people of Kwara may have been diverted and sold to commercial rice dealers in Abuja’ the party added.
Kwara PDP has also called for immediate explanations from the aforementioned APC legislators and demanded transparency in accounting for the bags of rice made available to them by the federal government through its food support scheme while noting that the party remains committed to upholding the principles of accountability, integrity, and service to the people-Team@orientactualmags.com
