Committee Raises Fresh Asset Plundering Allegations Against Ex-Gov Oyetola, Former Office-Holders

The Asset Recovery Committee set up by the Osun State Government on Friday raised a fresh allegation against former office-holders in the state, claiming that government vehicles valued at N1.5 billion were taken away by the former public officials.

This is coming  a day after the committee announced that  government  vehicles valued at about N2.9 billion  were taken away by  former governor Oyetola, his deputy, wife and other top public  officials.

The Committee through its Chairman, Dr B.T. Salami  on Saturday  issued a new directive  that  another batch of vehicles numbering 55 with an estimated value of N1.5 billion which had been discovered to have been taken away by former public officials should be returned immediately..

‘ We have uncovered another batch of diverted vehicles numbering 55. Those in possession of those vehicles should return them forthwith’ he directed.

Among the assorted vehicles are Kia Sportage numbering 40, Toyota Hilux, Prado Jeeps, Toyota Avensis, Nissan Pathfinder Jeeps, Toyota Highlander, and seven Ford Transit among others.

Ex-officials  including  Oyetola’s commissioners and Special Advisers, Head of Service, Chief executive of some government agencies are  in possession of  the said vehicles.

These categories of ex-officials are directed to return the vehicles in their possession before the administration trigger repossession operations’ the Committee Chairman insisted.

 Osun State PDP in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Chairman of the State PDP  Caretaker Committee,  Dr Akindele Adekunle, has expressed shock and indignation at what it called  ‘false legal claim to appropriate state vehicles’  made by the  state APC, declaring that  ‘there is no law in Osun state that empowers a Governor and cronies to  take government  vehicles away.

‘It is embarrassing reading the opposition citing a fake law when in reality there is no state or federal laws that support such a brazen act of diversion. By openly admitting such diversion of government property to private use, the ex-officials are culpable before the law. 

We submit that the tradition of ex-officials going away with their official vehicles is corruption- ridden and it is not known before the law. Using a supposed tradition to divert almost N4billion vehicles to private use is reprehensible and unacceptable.

We commend the Governor Ademola Adeleke administration for issuing retrieval directive through the Chairman of the Assets Recovery Committee.
