Defamation Case: Tambuwal’s Aide Remanded In Custody…Asked To Return To Court September 18
Chief Magistrate Fatima Hassan of the Magistrates” Court , Sokoto, has ordered that Mr. Shafi’u Umar-Tureta should be remanded in a correctional centre.
Recall that Tureta, who is Senator Aminu Tambuwal’s Special Assistant on Media , had gotten arrested and taken into custody by the police a few days ago, and he was arraigned on August 26, 2024, for defaming Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s wife, Mrs. Fatimoh.
Tureta was arrested for posting a video of the governor struggling to pronounce an English word on social media and another video wherein people were spraying money at the birthday party allegedly hosted by the governor’s wife.
The prosecutor, Abdurahman Mansur, said the offences committed by Tureta contravened the penal code law
He was also accused of posting a document which alleged that Governor Aliyu failed his Senior Secondary School Examination, and had F9 in English.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Tureta denied the allegations while the Defence Counsel, Mr Al’Mustafa Abubakar, made an oral application for his bail which was however opposed by the prosecutor.
