Emir Ajagungbade Shot Dead As Osun NURTW Clash Turns Fatal…What You Need To Know About Him…Gov Adeleke Condemns Incident, Orders Probe

A violent power struggle between rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) turned deadly in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Sunday leaving a popular political thug dead and several others seriously injured.

The clash, which erupted at the popular Mayfair Garage area, resulted in the tragic shooting and death of Mr. Olalekan Oyeyemi, who is popularly called ‘Emir’ and ‘Ajagungbade’.

Sources said the violence stems from an ongoing dispute over the control and leadership of motor parks and garages in the state , tensions boiled over during what was supposed to be a scheduled peace meeting, and it quickly degenerated into a chaotic shootout.

While Mr. Oyeyemi was fatally shot during the melee, several other members from the opposing factions sustained serious gunshot and weapon injuries. The wounded were rushed to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) where they are currently receiving treatment.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has not only condemned the incident but also ordered the State Police Command to immediately arrest and prosecute those who were involved in the incident.

In a move to curb further bloodshed, Governor Adeleke also ordered all warring factions to vacate the motor parks immediately while disclosing that the state government will dismantle the current garage leadership structure and ensure transition to a state-run Park Management System.

‘Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows, as all culprits will be brought to book. We call on members of the public to remain calm. We will ensure the restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas.  The security agencies are under instructions to ensure the sustainability of peace at all cost’ the governor submitted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed on Sunday.

The governor added that security agencies are under strict instructions to restore normalcy and sustain peace across the state at all costs disclosing plans to issue an official Executive Order that will legally establish the new Park Management System, which will help to bring permanent discipline and orderliness back to Osun transportation hubs.

‘We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state’ he added.

People spoke in sepulchral tones and had mournful facial expressions as news of the death of Mr. Olalekan Oyeyemi, who is popularly called ‘Emir’ and ‘Ajagungbade’ spreads on Sunday.

The deceased young man had given no one signs of imminent departure from the planet earth, there was actually no cause for concern as he was hale and hearty and had even attended a meeting at the police headquarters, Osogbo, two hours before his death.

Emir’s mother, Gbaale Oyeyemi was also attending an event on Sunday and the news of his death was not yet broken to her over one hour after his passing.

 Mr Olalekan Oyeyemi’s mother, an indigene of Ede, is an Osun priestess and an actress while his father, Mr Oyeyemi is an indigene of Erunmu, a suburb of Ibadan, Oyo State

The deceased NURTW leader and Accord Party political thug attended the state polytechnic, Iree where he had his Ordinary National Diploma (OND/ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND).

Sources said he is survived by two wives and children. He was beloved to have supernatural powers and protective charms.

Until his death on Sunday, the state APC had for close to two years now claimed that he was on trial at different courts over murder, kidnapping and terrorism while alleging that Governor Ademola Adeleke was shielding him.

Recall that during his visit to Osun State three months ago, Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu had also noted that the then state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, briefed him that some wanted criminal suspects were allegedly allowed to make the Government House, Osogbo a safe haven.
