Gov Abdulrazaq, Afees Abolore, IAMWI Congratulate LAK Jimoh On His 85th Birthday
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State on Wednesday sent a message of congratulations to an elder statesman, author, and APC chieftain, Alhaji Laziz Ayinla Kolawole, who is popularly called LAK Jimoh, on the occasion of his 85th birthday.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended Alhaji LAK Jimoh for committing the past decades to learning, research, and writing on contemporary issues that have shaped people’s understanding of the culture, tradition, politics, and economy of Kwara State, especially the Ilorin Emirate.
LAK’s quintessential work on Ilorin, he noted, has served as an outstanding preservation of the history of the people of Nigeria’s southernmost Emirate upon which younger scholars and researchers have built.
While also acknowledging his roles in progressive politics in the state, Governor AbdulRazaq wished the statesman many more years of good health and happiness.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees A. Alabi, has also extended warm felicitations to Alhaji L. A. K. Jimoh on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as an elder statesman whose life continues to inspire many across Kwara State and beyond.
Dr. Alabi highlighted Alhaji L. A. K. Jimoh’s distinguished reputation as a prominent elder known for his philanthropy, dedication to human and community development, and a disciplined character defined by deep values and integrity.
He further noted that the birthday celebrant stands as a custodian of the history, customs, traditions, and culture of the Ilorin people, preserving and promoting heritage that strengthens communal identity and cohesion.
He added that Alhaji Jimoh’s longstanding commitment to the welfare of others aligns with the broader vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose administration continues to promote a culture of service, empowerment, and community-focused development.
Political figures like Alhaji Jimoh, he added, reinforce the foundations of societal progress through their positive influence and generosity.
Dr. Alabi prayed for long life, good health, and continued divine guidance for the birthday celebrant, noting that he remains a respected figure whose contributions resonate widely across the state.
The Ilorin Anchor Men and Women Initiative (IAMWI) has also felicitated Alhaji Lazeez Ayinla Kolawole (LAK Jimoh), on his birthday, praising his extensive intellectual contributions to the preservation of the emirate’s culture and history.
The group, in a statement issued in Ilorin by its president, Alhaji Ahmed K. Suleiman and Public Relations Officer, Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman, said Alhaji LAK Jimoh’s works have remained central to documenting Ilorin’s historical evolution and safeguarding its cultural identity.
The elder statesman’s published research, especially his widely referenced book ‘Ilorin: The Journey So Far’, has according to IAMWI become an authoritative guide for scholars, journalists, policymakers and community leaders seeking an accurate understanding of the emirate’s past.
The group noted that beyond writing, LAK Jimoh has consistently provided clarifications on sensitive cultural and historical issues, including the origins of major traditional practices such as the Ilorin Durbar, helping to correct distortions and strengthen public awareness.
It added that his mentorship of younger researchers and his contribution to public discourse have enriched conversations around Ilorin’s heritage, traditional institutions and communal values.
