The Group Managing Director and CEO of BOVAS Group, a prominent indigenous petroleum marketing company in the country, Mrs. Victoria Adunola Samson, who is popularly called ‘Mama BOVAS’, has been appointed as Chancellor of Osun State University, Osogbo.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’ s spokesperson, Mr Olawale Rasheed, who announced Mrs Samson’s appointment in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Sunday, noted that the governor had done this following expiration of tenure of Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija.
‘The tenure of the former Chancellor, Apostle Folorunso Alakija ended on March 18, 2026, and the government of Osun State paid a celebration visit to Apostle Folorunso Alakija on Friday, May 8, 2026, to express the gratitude of the university to the Alakija family for the excellent support that they had given the university and Osun State.
Apostle Folorunso Alakija served as Chancellor of the university for 10 years (2016-2026).
Governor Ademola Adeleke also commended the impact of Apostle Alakija which remains a living legacy, especially the donation of the multi-billion naira Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital to the university’ the statement added.
The new Chancellor, Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson, an indigene of Iree , Boripe Local Government, Osun State, was born on December 5, 1949.
Under her management and that of her husband, the BOVAS Oil and Gas Company, has achieved great milestones by growing the retail arm of the business from one petroleum products service station to over 200 service stations with over 2,000 fully employed Nigerians as at December 31, 2025.
Mrs Samson owns the Texaco Petroleum Franchise and the Texaco Nigeria Plc becoming the first Nigerian to win the highly competitive Texaco Latin America and West Africa (LAWA) Award for Best Overall Dealer in 1990.
She recorded the highest sales in both West Africa and Latin America .
Mrs Samson has held leadership positions in the oil and gas sector, she has served as the Matron, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), NNPC/PPMC Satellite Depot, Ejigbo, Lagos State and Apata Depot, Ibadan, Oyo State.
She is also a member, Board of Trustees, Depot and Petroleum Products Marketing Association (DAPPMA).
Mrs Samson holds a Professional Diploma in Marketing and certificate from Harvard University Business School’s Leadership for Family in Business in (2013). She is also a beneficiary of the Chief Executive Programme IESE, Barcelona Spain.
Governor Adeleke noted that Mrs Samson manages her business with integrity, accountability and patriotism, adding that the State Government recognizes her decency and integrity in doing business in a society like ours where people oftentimes attempt to put logic head down.
