I’m A Product Of Luck-Tony Elumelu
Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Mr Tony Elumelu, has disclosed that he became rich by luck and hard work noting that he was only lucky that someone took a chance on him and it became a path to success.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the billionaire businessman, who disclosed this in a social media post on Saturday, however said African talent getting a chance by luck is a source of worry.
‘I started my career in a job I wasn’t qualified for. Someone took a chance on me. Everything I have built since has been to repay it. I was lucky. But luck should not be the only way an African talent gets a chance. The constraint is not talent. It is electricity. We leapfrogged landlines with mobile. We will not leapfrog electricity’ he said.
African countries must according to him urgently address electricity problems to avoid missing opportunities attendant with the digital economy.
‘My closing advice: To the youth in the room: start before you are qualified. I did’ he said.
