Students who were abducted while taking the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) at Government Secondary School, Olowa, Dekina Local Government on Tuesday, were actually at a ‘miracle centre’, Kogi State government, has submitted.
SSCE is conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO) every year.
Miracle centres are places where officials of examination bodies and teachers help the students to cheat. They do this by leaking questions and dictating answers.
Students pay through the nose to get top grades.
Despite getting abducted at a miracle centre, the state government said a large-scale multi-agency security operation has been launched to rescue four victims who are still in captivity; Principal of Government Secondary School, Olowa, Elder Daniel Iyanaa; a NECO official, Solomon Audu; and two female NECO candidates including Dorcas Sunday.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the state government disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo.
The commissioner noted that five people were initially abducted during the attack while one victim has been rescued.
‘Preliminary findings indicate that the examination centre, located in a remote and vulnerable area, was being used as a ‘miracle’ centre for external candidates.
The two female candidates involved were not regular students at Government Secondary School, Olowa, and the examination arrangements did not align with the security framework put in place by the Kogi State Government to protect candidates taking the ongoing NECO examinations across the state.
The victims are our people, and the government will spare no effort in ensuring their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the crime.
To protect the integrity of the ongoing operation, the Government will not disclose further operational details at this time.
