Mary Habila: Umahi’s Temporary Resignation ‘Necessary’ To Ensure Unhindered Probe-ADC

Mary Habila: Umahi’s Temporary Resignation ‘Necessary’ To Ensure Unhindered Probe-ADC

Engineer David Umahi, who is the Minister of Works, ought to have temporarily resigned from his position in order to allow an unhindered probe into the death of Mary Habila, a physiotherapist who was found dead at his Ebonyi residence, African Democratic Congress (ADC), has submitted.

The minister, who was the deputy governor of Ebonyi State from 2011 to 2015, also served as governor of ‘The Salt Of The Nation’ between May 29, 2015 and May 29, 2023.

.

ADC has emphasized the need for an independent investigation into the death of Mary while noting that Umahi’s temporary resignation will ensure public confidence in the outcome of the probe.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that ADC said this in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi on Wednesday while adding that the death of a citizen at the residence of a serving cabinet member is a matter of public interest that requires full transparency and accountability.

‘We therefore call for an independent investigation that is completely removed from the control or influence of the Executive. This inquiry must include a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of Ms Habila’s death and a public report of its findings’ the statement said.

An independent probe will according to the party enhance trust in state institutions while accusing the Tinubu administration of repeatedly failing to subject senior government officials facing serious allegations to independent scrutiny.

‘The least that should be expected is that the Minister, namely Senator David Umahi, should immediately step aside from office pending the conclusion of an independent investigation’ the statement added.

ADC also accused the President Bola Tinubu administration of being ever ready to protect political office holders who run into troubled waters.

‘The Tinubu administration appears more eager to defend reputations than to establish facts and submit to accountability’ the statement submitted while warning that failure by President Bola Tinubu to insist on accountability will reinforce public perception that his administration has been protecting senior officials anytime they hit troubled waters.

The party added that Nigerians deserve the truth about the circumstances surrounding Habila’s death while her family also deserves justice.

ADC extended its condolences to Habila’s family, urging the authorities to ensure that the investigation is transparent and its findings made public-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
