Kwara Abduction: District Head , 2 Sons Remanded In Custody

A Magistrate has ordered that a District Head in Ilorin, Kwara state, Ibrahim Ahmed, and his two sons should be remanded in custody over their alleged involvement in kidnapping.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned they were brought before Magistrate Adam Mohammed of the Magistrates’ Court , Ilorin on Thursday.

Ahmad, 55, who is the Magaji Alase of Ilorin and his sons; Ibrahim,18, and Mohammed,15,  are facing criminal charges, ‘If gold rusts, what can iron do’ you would say.

They have been accused of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and involvement in abduction contrary to sections 2, 1 of the Kwara State (Prohibition) of kidnapping law 2010.

The Police First Information(FIR) stated that the complainant, one Lawal Ayanshola of Shao ,Moro local government , Kwara state, said while taking a nap at his residence, some unknown gunmen came and kidnapped his wife, Afusat and his son, Taofeek and they took them to an unknown destination.

As contained in the FIR  ‘The kidnappers had earlier collected the sum of N230,000 from him while taking the abductees away but later demanded for a ransom of N14 million using his wife’s mobile  phone .

He later paid the sum of N3.2 million as ransom before his wife and son were released’ .

The police report added that during attempts by security agents to rescue the victims, two suspected kidnappers sustained gunshot injuries and were later  taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching hospital (UITH) where they were confirmed dead. 

‘While searching the bush, the police, recovered one single barrel gun, nine bottles of drinks, three pairs of rubber shoes, one cap, one jacket, and the sum of N177,500 from the defendants’ the police prosecutor, Samuel Mayowa, said.

He urged the court  to order that the suspects  be remanded in custody  pending the outcome of further investigation into the matter.

In his ruling, Magistrate Adam Mohammed ordered that   two among the suspects should be remanded in custody while the remaining one, who is a minor , should be taken to  the Borstal facility in Ilorin pending  legal advice from  the office of the Attorney General of the state.

Mohammed later adjourned the matter until October 4, 2022 for further mention- Team@orientactualmags.com
