Kwara PDP Guber Primary: Sulaiman Kawu Promises Purposeful Leadership, People-Oriented Governance As Party Members Put Seal On His Candidacy
Ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the State of Harmony, a technocrat-turned politician, Engineer Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu has won the PDP gubernatorial nomination.
The easy-going politician, who had been unanimously chosen as ‘consensus guber candidate’ which was announced by the state PDP chairman, Hon Isa Bawa on Saturday, got 98,998 votes in the direct primary held to put a seal on his candidacy on Sunday while Alhaji Ladi Hassan, who also participated in the guber primary, had 2,125 votes
Chairman, Kwara State PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee, former senator Duro Faseyi who was joined by other members of the committee including the secretary, Hannah Abigael Makama, declared Engineer Sulaiman Kawu winner of the direct primary at exactly 6.02 pm.


Giving his speech, the state PDP chairman, Hon Isa Adamu Bawa, praised former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s effective and good leadership while calling Kawu’s co-aspirants who have supported the consensus–driven nomination process and demonstrated spirit of sportsmanship ‘heroes’.
He also said members of the party in the state are in upbeat mood ahead of the 2027 elections.
Also speaking, former senator Duro Faseyi commended Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki for continuing to work for the progress of the party at the state and national levels while thanking the guber aspirants for supporting the consensus-driven nomination process and placing the interest of the party above personal interests
He also predicted victory for the party in the upcoming elections.

The collation of results and announcement of Engineer Sulaiman Kawu as the state PDP gubernatorial candidate at the secretariat of the party in Ilorin was monitored by a team from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that include Mr Okpanachi Ojodale, Mr Adejumo Peters, Mr Hamzah Labaran and Mr Abdulazeez Ibrahim.
In his acceptance speech, Engineer Sulaiman Kawu promised to ensure purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance if elected governor next year while emphasizing the importance of having a listening government.
‘We are coming back not merely for politics or power, but for purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance. We are coming back to restore hope, revive infrastructure, improve education, support our farmers, empower our youths and women, strengthen healthcare delivery, create economic opportunities, and return Kwara State to the path of security, growth, dignity and prosperity.
The struggle ahead is greater than what we have passed through. The task before us is enormous. Our people desire a government that listens, a government that cares, and a government that works for everybody irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or ethnicity’ he said.
Thanking Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki whose experience, sacrifice, courage, and consistent leadership have according to him continued to provide direction not only for ‘our party, but also for Kwara State and Nigeria at large’, also thanked every leader, stakeholder, elder, youth, woman, and loyal member of PDP across the sixteen local governments in the state for the confidence and trust reposed in him.
To his former co-aspirants, Engineer Sulaiman Kawu noted that his emergence as the party’s guber candidate is a collective victory.
‘This victory is not mine alone. It is a collective victory. It is a victory for every aspirant who, despite personal ambition and aspiration, invested resources, energy, time, and political capital in mobilizing our people and strengthening our party across the state.
