Lagos Assembly Okays 22 Cabinet Nominees, Rejects 2 Former ‘Powerful’ Commissioners, 15 Others ..It Wasn’t A Personal Decision-Committee Chairman

The political future of former Lagos state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, former Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho and fifteen others currently hangs in the balance as the state House of Assembly ‘rejected’ them on Wednesday.
Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu had a few days ago, made 39 cabinet nominations and forwarded their names to the parliament while confirmation hearings were subsequently held for them.
.
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who presided over plenary session on Wednesday, announced the verdict of the parliament and it was made known that the house of assembly has taken a decision to confirm only 22 out of the 39 cabinet nominees.
He said this ‘verdict’ was sequel to a rigorous and detailed screening of the nominees by an ad hoc committee headed by the Chief Whip, Hon. Fatai Mojeed.
Obasa commended the committee for its effectiveness and urged the confirmed nominees to always remember that they are in office to serve the people of the state and not individuals.
He also promised that the parliament would continue to do its best in the interest of the state.
It will be recalled that the lawmakers had earlier this month condemned the list of Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu’ s cabinet nominees.
While expressing their dissatisfaction and picking holes in the list of cabinet nominees sent to the parliament ,the lawmakers, who spoke during a plenary session , had said the list did not reflect their expectations and the people of their constituencies.
The Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko had read out the names of the 39 cabinet nominees while the lawmakers took turns to give their take on the issue and lamented the exclusion of some local governments and constituencies from the list.
Raising a ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance’, Hon Aro Abiodun of Ikorodu II state constituency, told his colleagues that despite contributing to the success of the All Progressives Congress in the last general election, Ikorodu only got one slot while the Deputy Majority Leader , Ademola Kasunmu, also lamented absence of nominee from Ikeja.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the nominees confirmed are Layode Ibrahim, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, Bola Olumegbon, Mr Idris Aregbe, Ms Abisola Olusanya, Mr Moruf Fatai, Mr Kayode Bolaji-Roberts, Engr. Those who were not confirmed by the House are Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Mr Yomi Oluyomi, Mrs Folashade Ambrose, Ms Barakat Bakare, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, Engr. Olalere Odusote, Dr Rotimi Fashola, Mrs Bolaji Dada, Mr Sam Egube, Mr Olalekan Fatodu, Mrs. Solape Hammond, Mr. Mosopefolu George, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, Mr. Seun Osiyemi, Mr Rotimi Ogunwuyi, and Dr Olumide Oluyinka.
The house of assembly has given no reasons for refusing to ‘confirm’ the affected cabinet nominees while the chairman of the four-member Adhoc committee, Hon Mojeed Fatai, who though almost got prodded into revealing reasons why they were not confirmed during an interview with TVC News on Wednesday night but refused to budge, however insisted that it was a collective decision.
‘ I said during our inaugural meeting that our mandate was to screen the nominees and not to confirm or disqualify anybody and thank God that today the committee of forty took decision on who to confirm and who to reject, the reasons for the rejection of some of the nominees is for the forty members and not an individual.
Our duty was to assess their records, disqualification has to do with the decision of the whole house not me as an individual or as chairman of the committee, our duty was to screen and make our reports available to the forty members of the parliament’ he said-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
