Man Gets 6-Month Sentence One Year After Assaulting FRSC Officers In Kwara

Mr Samson Ayadi, who assaulted Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officers in Kwara State on July 20, 2024, has gotten a 6-month sentence.

The incident occurred at Malete junction and the FRSC officers in question were on patrol of Jebba Road.

DCC ‘Estine Okolo, who is the  Zonal Legal Officer of FRSC, in a statement he issued in Ilorin on Tuesday and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that Samson was convicted of multiple crimes and got option of fines while adding that I.Y Jimade of the Magistrates’ Court presided over the court session.

 The sentences are expected to run concurrently.

The defendant was brought before I.Y Jimade of the Magistrates’ Court, Kwara State following offences committed against FRSC officers attached to Oloru Unit Command who were on patrol of Jebba Road on the 20th of July 2024.  The incident happened at Malete Junction.

The defendant, who drove a Toyota Sienna car, pulled over, mobilized the crowd, not only to assault the patrol team but also got on the patrol vehicle and removed an impounded motorcycle, whose rider had taken caution to the wind and stripped himself naked.

Three witnesses testified in support of the prosecution while the defendant was the only witness for the defence. The ‘no case submission’ earlier made by the Defence Counsel was overruled by the court, with only one charge sustained. The court, after analyzing the evidence of the Prosecution and the Defence Counsel and the exhibits, held that the case has been proved beyond reasonable doubt.

The defendant was convicted as follows:- 1. Criminal Intimidation, 6-month sentence or N20,000 fine. 2. Criminal Assault, 3-month sentence or N30,000 fine. 3. Inciting Disturbance 3-month sentence or N10,000 fine . 4. Resistance or Obstructing a public officer on duty , 6-month sentence or N30,000 fine’ the statement added -Team@orientactualmags.com
