- Non -teaching staff of tertiary institutions in Kwara State carried out their threat to embark on a 3-day warning strike on Wednesday.
- Recall that leaders of the Committee of Unions in Tertiary Institutions (CUTI), Kwara State, had during the weekend directed members of the union to embark on a 3-day warning strike from December 4th to 6th, 2024.
- Recall also that CUTI members had held peaceful demonstrations at their respective tertiary institutions to alert the general public about their plight on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
- State-owned tertiary institutions in the state include Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin, Kwara State College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, Kwara State College of Education, Oro, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Kwara State International Aviation College, and the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.

- CUTI had noted that the decision to embark on the warning strike was sequel to the state Government’s refusal to pay the approved new national minimum wage to workers at state-owned tertiary institutions for the second month after the commencement of implementation for other segments of workers in the state.
- Comrade Musa Mustapha, who is the Chairman of CUTI, told Team@orientactualmags.com on Wednesday that members of the union complied with the directive to stay at home while noting that the warning strike will continue, and it may later graduate to ‘indefinite strike’.
- ‘We have absolute respect for Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, he has always done his best to address issues concerning our welfare . Unfortunately, in recent times, some of those people working with him have not been communicating our grievances to the appropriate quarters, they have not been passing getting him informed of our plight.
- They are not giving him adequate information about our plight. And that was why we had to resort to this, this is more than 2 months now, we have always communicated with those in charge of government offices through letters, we have met with top government functionaries, they have promised, they have made several promises and none of the promises have come to fruition. Now, the other segment of the workers in the state have been paid the minimum wage and this is the second month already and we have not been considered.
- That was what happened when palliative was distributed after the removal of fuel subsidy, the state workers were given and none of our members in the tertiary education was considered , are we not workers too? Don’t we feel hungry the same way other workers feel hungry? Don’t we have children in the schools to pay school fees? Don’t we have needs? Why are we not considered for the minimum wage? What have we done?.
- The governor is a very caring father, he has always done his best to address our issues concerning our welfare issues, but the government agencies are not giving him the right information about what is going on in our campuses, we are tired. We are hungry, we are dying. the governor must address our needs, we are human beings, we should not be treated like second class workers, we are workers and we are workers. We are doing our best to uplift the progress of Kwara state. Thank you very much’ he said-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
