My Brother Unintentionally Posted Fake News About Your Marriage, Pls, Forgive Him, Woman Tells Elumelu
Mr Anthony Onyemaechi Elumelu, an economist, banker and a philanthropist has been urged to let go of anger and forgive an 18-year-old social media user, Kingsley Akunemeihe, who posted fake news about his marriage.
Kingsley had authored a social media post alleging that the banker has divorced his wife on account of infidelity.
The social media user’s sister, Ngozi Akunemeihe in a video made available on Instagram on Sunday said Kingsley was arrested while returning home after taking the 2026 UTME examination and he has not regained his freedom since then.
Kingsley had in an X.com post claimed that Elumelu has divorced his wife, Awele.
Mr Elumelu is the Chairman of the United Bank of Africa and the financial institution had described the story as untrue.
‘The attention of UBA Group has been drawn to a false, defamatory, and malicious publication currently circulating on social media platforms, falsely alleging that the Group Chairman, Mr Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, has divorced his wife.
We confirm that three individuals directly connected to the creation and dissemination of these malicious falsehoods have been arrested’ the bank submitted.
Ngozi, who is Kingsley Akunemeihe’s sister, has urged the UBA Chairman to show forgiveness and allow her brother to get released from detention .
‘Mr Tony Elumelu got the police to arrest my 18-year-old younger brother, Kingsley Chinanu Akunemeihe. He was arrested on Saturday, April 18. He was coming back from where he sat his JAMB exam when he was arrested and he never got home.
He said he got the post from another person’s handle and shared it with others. After sharing it, people called his attention that the post is fake and defamatory.
He acknowledged that he did something wrong and apologized for it. His apology posts are still there on his handle.
He has been detained for over a week now.
I am begging you sir, please forgive him. He is just 18. I know people may say he is an adult, but he is still a teenager who acted out of ignorance. He realized that what he did was not okay and he has apologized. I am begging you to withdraw the complaint so that he can come back home’ she submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
