PEDU Urges Senator Sadiq Umar To Voluntarily Withdraw From 2027 Kwara North Senate Race

PEDU Urges Senator Sadiq Umar To Voluntarily Withdraw From 2027 Kwara North Senate Race

The Patigi Emirate Development Union (PEDU) has strongly expressed opposition against Senator Sadiq Sulaiman Umar’s 2027 senate bid arguing that Patigi Local Government ought to produce the next representative of Kwara North senatorial district in the senate in line with an established ‘zoning arrangement’.

Presiding over the press conference held in Ilorin on Tuesday, National President of the association, Mr Salihu Bologi Umar said the ‘zoning principle’ in Kwara North has long served as a stabilizing force for political balance, mutual trust and fairness among the five local governments in the senatorial district while adding that it is expected to be done in rotation on the basis of two terms.

Patigi local government should according to him be allowed to produce the next occupant of the parliament seat in the interest of fairness.

‘The people of Patigi Local Government Area consider it both justifiable and appropriate that the 2027 Kwara North Senate nomination should be made available to them’ he submitted while adding that the ‘political loyalty’ of Patigi Emirate to successive administrations and party structures in the senatorial district is commendable and noting that the people of the local government have consistently supported the collective interest of Kwara North.

PEDU urged Senator Umar to respect the ‘zoning arrangement’ and voluntarily withdraw from the 2027 Kwara North senate race in the spirit of fairness that has guided the senatorial district’s ‘political arrangement’.

The union also urged the state APC leaders to recognize the contributions and loyalty of Patigi Emirate to the party over the years noting that  showing fairness in nomination process will strengthen unity in the senatorial district.

Failure to respect the ‘zoning principle’ can according to PEDU provoke political realignments in the emirate.

‘This position is not intended as a threat, but as a sincere appeal for justice, inclusion, and the preservation of political trust between the party and the people of Patigi Emirate’ he submitted while adding that ‘No to third term representation. Respect the established zoning tradition. Justice for Patigi LGA. Two terms are sufficient.  It is now Patigi’s turn’.

PEDU also urged stakeholders, traditional rulers, youth groups and community leaders in Kwara North to ensure that the principles of equity and peaceful political cooperation are respected ahead of the 2027 general election-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
