Petrol Subsidy: Distribution Of ‘Food Item’ Begins In Osun Tomorrow
Osun state government disclosed on Monday night that the distribution of ‘food item’ to citizens and residents of the state will begin tomorrow, noting that this will be done through the committee set up last week in partnership with the Ministry of Special Duties and Regional Integration.
Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, who disclosed this in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com, noted that the ‘distribution method’ has been finalized by the committee, adding that the distribution will start tomorrow, Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
The committee constituted by the state government comprises representatives of Osun state Trade Union Congress, Christian Association of Nigeria, Osun state Muslim Community and others including Chairman of the Osun state Trade Union Congress (TUC) Comrade Bimbo Fasakin, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Rev’d John Adeleke, Very Rev’d Ajao Olayinka Faith Elijah, President of the Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustapha Adeleke Olawuyi, the Iyaloja General of Osun state Chief (Mrs.) Mary Aderonke Oyebode, Labour Union leader, Comrade Lasun Akindele, representative of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Comrade Oyebade Dele, representative of the Egbe Olowo Parapo, Mrs. Hamzat Jelilat, Chairman of the Osun state Marketers Association, Chief Ismail Olaiya, IPAC chairman, Engr. Femi Adesuyi, Alhaji Abdulfatai Jagunmolu and the representative of Correspondents’ Chapel, Osun state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
The Federal Government had come up with the ‘food aid’ programme sequel to the removal of petrol subsidy and its concomitant hardships.
The beneficiaries , Alimi noted, will begin to receive the food item according to the prepared timetable in order to achieve the intended purpose.
The statement added that the distribution will commence immediately after the meeting expected to be held by the ‘Palliative Committee’ tomorrow morning.
‘The total number of the subsidized rice palliatives that will be distributed tomorrow is 5,700: three thousand 50kg from the first batch of palliatives, and Two thousand seven hundred 50kg bags of rice from the 14,000 second batch.
Similarly, Osun state has received 2 billion naira out of the 5 billion naira palliative money earmarked for the state by the Federal government.
The template and modalities of payment will be made by the Palliative Committee at the forthcoming meeting.
It can be recalled that the state received 3,000 50kg bags of rice from the federal government, and it will be shared with 2,700 50kg bags of rice from the second batch approved 14,000 bags starting tomorrow, while the state is still expecting 11,300 50kg bags of rice and 3,000 metric tonnes of maize.
