Planned National Convention ‘On Course’, There’s Only One PDP-Wike…Kwara Chapter Confirms Attendance After Holding ‘Stakeholder Meeting’ In Ilorin

FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike has asserted that PDP remains one and a single entity while noting that the planned National Convention of the party is ‘on course’.

The party’s National Convention is scheduled to hold in Abuja between March 28 and March 29, 2026.

Talking to journalists after inspecting ongoing projects in the federal capital, the minister noted that while individual disagreements are natural in politics, that will not however imply a split in the party’s structure.

Mr Nyesome Wike

‘I don’t know which camp you are talking about now. There is only one PDP. So, it will be wrong for me to say the other camp. I don’t know whether any other camp exists.

Naturally, there are some individuals that may not be happy. If you say so, okay yes, some individuals may not be happy and have called to say ‘let bygones be bygones,’ but not a faction. There is only one PDP now’ he said.

The minister also noted that the upcoming national convention is ‘on course’ and will be held as planned in order to meet up with the strict timelines set by the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission for the commencement of primaries.

In the meanwhile, Kwara State chapter of the party has confirmed their members’ attendance at the upcoming National Convention submitting that it is ‘the best course of action’.

Leaders and members of the state PDP took the decision during the ‘stakeholder meeting’ held at the party secretariat , Ilorin on Wednesday while also providing the grounds for the decision to attend the Abuja national convention.

The meeting was well attended despite the short notice given by the State Executive Committee, which decided yesterday that it was important for the state chapter to decide on certain issues concerning the party’s upcoming National Convention in Abuja on March 29th, 2026.

The stakeholders held extensive deliberation on the following issues:

(a) Whether our delegates should attend the upcoming convention scheduled to hold on March 29th, 2026, having attended an earlier convention held in Ibadan last November;

(b) Following the decision on issue (a) above, what should be our subsequent decision?

The stakeholders were unanimous in their decisions on all the issues stated above.

The stakeholders agreed that we should send our delegates to fully participate in the upcoming national convention in Abuja on March 29th.

It was also decided that if the National Convention is successful and it is witnessed by the regulatory body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as required by law, then, we, the stakeholders, will hold another meeting to review the situation and recommend to our leader to use the PDP as the platform for us to contest the 2027 general election.

We also concluded that the PDP remains a very popular, credible, well-known, widely accepted and solid platform and brand in all the 16 Local Government Areas in the state such that no other political party can match its reach and acceptability in the state. Therefore, the party in the state has remained unaffected by the developments at the national level.

The stakeholders also thank our leaders and all the members of the party for their steadfastness, resilience, loyalty, and devotion to the PDP in Kwara State’ the party leaders submitted in a communique signed by the state chairman, Hon. Isa Bawa Adamu, Alh Ishola Balogun Fulani, Hajia Nimotallahi Ibrahim and Professor Ahmad Ali.

Talking to journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com, Professor Ahmad Ali, a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, noted that the state chapter had since the intraparty conflict began taken a  non-aligned stance hence the decision to attend the National Convention held in Ibadan last year but delegates from the state however pulled out of the event when INEC officials became conspicuous by their absence.

He added that with the recognition of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led exco by the Court of Appeal and having followed due process in respect of the upcoming national convention, the best course of action for any member of the party is to attend the ‘Abuja convention’.

He also noted that there are indications that the ‘Abuja national convention’ will be attended by INEC officials which will give it the needed ’regulatory seal’.

Professor Ahmad Ali, who spoke on behalf of Kwara State PDP guber aspirants, also said Nigerians will see a rebranded PDP after March 30.

.The ‘stakeholder meeting’ was attended by Kwara PDP bigwigs including Hon Isa Adamu Bawa, Alhaji Ishola Balogun Fulani, Professor Ahmad Ali, Hon Abdulahi Kayode, Hon Yinusa Eletu, and Hon Yinka Otukoko- Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
