President Tinubu, Gov Abdulrazaq, Nurudeen Adeyemi, Raheem Adedoyin Congratulate Alimi Abdulrazaq On His 70th Birthday
A legal luminary, Dr Muhammed Alimi AbdulRazaq turned 70 on Friday, July 31, 2026, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led a chorus of congratulations.
The birthday celebrant, who is the Mutawali of Ilorin Emirate, is the first indigene of Ilorin to earn a PhD in Law.
Dr Alimi Abdulrazaq was born on July 31, 1956, and he turned 70 on Friday, July 31, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu in a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide, Mr Bayo Onanuga called him ‘an accomplished legal practitioner, a respected community leader, and a patriotic Nigerian’ while adding that his exemplary career has inspired many within and beyond the legal profession.
The president added that Dr Alimi AbdulRazaq’s remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s legal profession and the country’s institutional development as the pioneer Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) laid a solid foundation for regulating the nation’s electricity industry, helping to shape reforms that continue to guide power sector in the country.
He also praised the birthday celebrant’s enduring commitment to education as the Founder and Chairman of Bridge House College, Ikoyi, Lagos, which has been nurturing generations of young Nigerians for academic excellence, leadership, and responsible citizenship.
The president equally acknowledged his invaluable contributions to corporate governance as a Non-Executive Director of First Bank Holdings Plc, where his wealth of experience and sound judgment continue to enrich one of Nigeria’s foremost financial institutions.
‘As you celebrate this significant milestone, I salute your distinguished record of service to our nation, your steadfast commitment to justice, education, and institutional excellence, as well as your enduring legacy of leadership. Your contributions to Nigeria’s development remain worthy of commendation.
I pray that Almighty Allah will grant you many more years in good health, wisdom, and fulfilment as you continue to render invaluable service to our nation and humanity’ the statement added.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has also extended his hearty congratulations to Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq on the joyous occasion of his 70th birthday,
The birthday celebrant and the governor are full siblings and he is Mallam Abdulrahman’s older brother.

The governor commended Dr. Alimi for his Solomonic leadership, being a true brother in every sense of the word, and for his fidelity to the values of the AbdulRazaq family and Ilorin as a community.
‘Despite being a man of many firsts like our late father, AGF AbdulRazaq SAN, Dr Alimi remains incredibly humble and gracious at every turn. It is the reason we all adore him’ he added.
The governor asked God to uphold Dr. Alimi upon goodness, keep him steadfast as a conscientious Muslim and statesman, and ease his affairs with good health and happiness.
A Kwara State APC bigwig, Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun, has also extended his warm congratulations to the Mutawali of Ilorin, Dr. Muhammed Alimi AbdulRazaq, on the joyous occasion of his 70th birthday.

Former Commissioner for Information, who is the Oloriewe of Oro kingdom, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin also on Friday penned a heartfelt tribute to the Mutawalli of Ilorin titled ‘Dr. Alimi Abdulrazaq; The Sage @70’.
Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin called the birthday celebrant an iconic father figure and the sage of our time.
‘It is a great honour to join other well- meaning Kwarans, home and abroad, to celebrate the 70th birthday of an iconic father figure, Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq.
Dr. Alimi is a towering figure in our country (Nigeria). In Kwara, we know his worth at a personal level.
No one is born perfect, no one exemplifies perfection but the Mutawalli of Ilorin comes close to that. Although aristocratic in look, he is conscientious, affable, down -to- earth, simple and imbued with uncommon wisdom. If you follow his political trajectory, you will understand and appreciate that he is very effective in political management.
I have a personal father figure relationship with Mutawallin. My rise to sudden political prominence 25 years ago has his imprimatur.
He was a ladder my team used to climb to political glory at the National Convention of the then ruling party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2001. At that convention in Abuja, I was elected the Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Party, the highest position ceded to Kwara then.
It was a high stake battle. It was tough enough that my foray into politics started from seeking office at the very top ladder of the party- the National Executive Committee (the party’s highest elective organ).
My situation was not helped by the opposition to my candidacy which was promoted by two influential Kwarans in Abuja
However, by the stroke of luck, my political soul mate and confidant, late Ahmed Ahman Pategi (May Allah grant him Aljanah), Kwara State PDP Chairman uncovered the hire wire plot against my candidacy. I was stunned because the people concerned were supposed to be my mentors.
The same Ahman discovered an antidote to the plot: late Chief Tony Anenih.
Back then, Chief Anenih called the shots in PDP; his words were the law in the party. For that 2001 convention, he was the master planner. Once your name got included in his list, your victory at the convention was assured.
Ahman discovered Dr. Alimi’s closeness to Chief Anenih and got him to lead us to the residence of Mr Fix It in Abuja.
Chief Anenih asked just one question: ‘ Is this the person Kwara wants?’. He got an affirmative answer.
And that was it; I got elected – to the consternation of my powerful opponents.
Was I surprised about Dr. Alimi’s support for my candidacy? Yes. He did it for Kwara but the speed was unbelievable . But it was also probably a payback.
Dr. Alimi was the governorship candidate of PDP in Kwara State in 1999. I was then the influential Editor -in- Chief/ Chief Executive of The Herald Newspapers. I was not a party person, I was not involved in partisan politics. But I rooted for Dr. Alimi and didn’t hide my preference. On the Election Day, I monitored with him the returns from the field at their family house in Surulere.
He lost the election and the backlash against me by the Lawal/Saraki team lingered for long and contributed to my voluntary exit from The Herald later.
During my tenure as PDP national officer, I related very well with Dr. Alimi but I was closer to his younger brother, AbduRahman AbdulRazaq, a deft political player back then.
Dr. Alimi missed being Kwara’s elected Chief Executive but the younger brother who has been the Governor for over seven years has, through his outstanding performance in office , brought pride to the AbdulRazaq family.
Dr. Alimi is not just the patriarch of the AbdulRazaq family, he is the quiet Godfather in Kwara’s political arena .
To be sure, he is not a conventional godfather: no airs, no mercurial displays, his affability makes it easy for party chieftains to seek his interventions where and when necessary.
I have had the privilege of unending mentorship from Dr. Alimi. He brings to my notice and seeks explanation on matters concerning me; he seeks my views on critical issues and guides me conscientiously. .
Dr. Alimi’s 70th birthday anniversary is a milestone. May Allah continue His favours on him, grant him long life in good health. Amen.
