President Tinubu Succumbs To Pressure, Bestows 2nd Highest National Honour On Speaker Tajudeen Abbas
President Bola Tinubu has announced the decision to bestow Nigeria’s second highest national honour , the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement he issued on Friday night.
Recall that the president had in his 64th Independence Day speech on October 1, announced the decision to bestow the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on the Speaker and the Deputy Senate President.
Recall also that members of the House of Representatives had during a plenary session on Wednesday rejected the CFR category and called on President Tinubu to honour the Speaker with GCON..
‘President Tinubu was persuaded by the House of Representatives position and has decided to correct the historical error and oversight.
Thus, he has decided to upgrade the Speaker to GCON from CFR, in accordance with the National Order of Precedence’ Onanuga submitted while noting that the Speaker, the Senate President, other principal officers of the National Assembly, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria will formally receive the national honours at an investiture ceremony that will be held later–Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
