Saraki Urges Young Women To Prioritize Education, Skill Acquisition

Former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki has urged young women in the country to take their future seriously by embracing education, vocational training, skill acquisition, and active civic participation as pathways to leadership, self-development, and societal impact.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Dr Saraki’s Press Officer on Local Matters, Mr Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir noted that the former Senate President said this during the Young Women Symposium organized by the Saraki Young Women in Politics in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The event brought together young women between the ages of 18 and 25 for mentorship, empowerment while the discussions focused on personal development, leadership, and political inclusion.

Addressing the participants, Dr Saraki urged the young women to remain committed to learning skills, improving themselves, and taking more active roles in society and politics, stressing that they represent the future leaders of society and must begin early to prepare themselves for greater responsibilities.

He emphasized that education, vocational training, and civic participation remain among the strongest tools available to young people in building their future and contributing meaningfully to national development.

Dr Saraki, who is the Waziri of Ilorin, also expressed delight at the level of civic consciousness displayed by the participants, particularly the fact that many of them have gotten on electoral register, describing this as a positive sign of readiness to participate actively in the democratic process.

‘I am happy that many of you are not just here by mouth, but have already gotten on electoral register and ready to play your part in the democratic process’ he said.

Reflecting on his years as governor of Kwara State, Dr Saraki highlighted efforts made to expand opportunities for young people through investments in education, healthcare, sports development, aviation, and empowerment programmes, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved when young people, especially women, are equipped with the tools to succeed.

Hundreds of participants received items and working tools tailored to different trades and vocational areas based on prior needs assessments conducted by the organizers, providing practical support that beneficiaries can immediately put to use.

Dr Saraki commended the organizers led by Barrister Omotosho Monsurat Peace, for putting together an initiative built on real support and genuine opportunities for young women, describing the symposium as timely, impactful, and reflective of a commitment to developing the next generation of women leaders.

He assured participants that empowerment initiatives targeted at young people and women will continue, stressing that the intervention was not intended as a one-off effort but part of broader and sustained support aimed at equipping young women with skills, opportunities, and confidence needed to become productive citizens and future leaders.

The event featured the presentation of items and vocational tools to participants as part of efforts aimed at encouraging skill acquisition, self-reliance, and greater participation of young women in society-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
