Tanzania’s First Gentleman, Hafidh Hassan, Dies In Zanzibar
The First Gentleman of Tanzania, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, is dead.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that his death was announced by Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi on Monday who noted that Hafidh breathed his last at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital, Zanzibar.
Ndejembi said Ameir, who had been suffering from a heart condition, died at 8 am local time on Monday.
He was laid to rest in Kizimkazi, a village in Zanzibar on Monday evening. The Janazah (Islamic funeral prayer) was presided over by Grand Mufti of Zanzibar, Sheikh Saleh Omar Kaabi.
Hafidh Ameir Hassan, who is survived by four children and 15 grandchildren became the First Gentleman of Tanzania when his wife, Samia Suluhu Hassan became the country’s president in March 2021.
The deceased First Gentleman, an agricultural academic, largely kept a low public profile and rarely appeared alongside his wife at official events.
Hafidh and Samia got married in 1978 and have four children, three sons and a daughter.
