It has become important and necessary to have former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s face on naira note this, if done, will inspire the future generation of Nigerians, PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned Atiku said this on Saturday while commending the retired General for the efforts made to end the civil war involving Ethiopia and Tigray.
The two parties had a few days ago, agreed to a cease-fire after peace talks that had lasted for one week which was presided over by the African Union led by Obasanjo.
Atiku, who served as vice president under Obasanjo , tweeted about this while noting that the retired General had played a similar role in Liberia and São Tomé as Nigerian president.
It will be recalled that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. had a few days ago, announced that circulation of the newly redesigned N100, N200, N500 and N1000 naira notes would begin on December 15.
CBN governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, had noted that the step taken to redesign naira was to counter terrorism financing, hoarding of banknotes by members of the public, with statistics showing that over 85 per cent of monies in circulation were outside the vaults of the commercial banks.
‘I celebrate the extraordinary prowess of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in bringing peace to Ethiopia. I am not surprised. I know my boss. He did the same thing in Liberia and São Tomé and Príncipe during our time in office. If for nothing else, he is most deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize, and I will nominate him when entries are open for nominations.
Africa is blessed to have a statesman of such impeccable democratic credentials as Chief Obasanjo. A man whose image ought to be in the redesigned Naira note to inspire future generations of Nigerians to sacrifice for their nation and continent.
