Why We Served ‘Crystal Place’ Demolition Notice, Strict Compliance With Urban Devt, Planning Regulations ‘Nonnegotiable’ – KWGIS

The Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS) has explained reasons for serving the owner of Crystal Place, Sulu Gambari Road, Ministry of Works Roundabout, Ilorin, a demolition notice, submitting that approval rules were violated.

The agency noted that new findings showed clearly that the owner of the structure grossly violated the approval that was issued by the government on March 22, 2013.

‘The approval was for the purpose of ‘a commercial car park’ only’ Esv. Sulyman Abdulkareem, who is the Chairman of KW-GIS, submitted in a statement he issued in Ilorin and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Sunday.

KWGIS also said the building in question which the statement referred to as ‘illegal’, conspicuously creates obstacles for urban planning, road expansion and environmental protection which are the key features of the urban renewal programme of the government.

‘It is trite to say that a land allotted for the purpose of a car park cannot and should not become corner shops which it became overnight.

Importantly, the land was originally designed as a green area (a garden) where civil servants, pensioners, and members of the public relaxed at the new state secretariat complex’ he said.

The agency also disclosed that tenants occupying shops at the shopping complex in question have been asked to remove their goods, adding that the ongoing urban renewal programme is in the best interest of the public.

To assert that the action taken was not politics-infused, KWGIS added  that   ‘the programme is neutral to affiliations as many defaulting properties had earlier been removed for similar reasons, and it will be unfair to give preferential treatment to any structures above the larger interest of the public’.

Hon Moshood Mustapha

The property in question belongs to a former member of the House of Representatives, who is also the Wakinlin of Ilorin, Hon Moshood Mustapha.

Team@orientactualmags.com though had a telephone conversation with the former federal lawmaker to seek his reaction on Sunday afternoon and he had promised to revert, but we were yet to hear from him as at the time of publishing this report-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
