Kwara APC Guber Primary Postponed Midway As The Odds Favour Yahaya Seriki
Kwara State APC gubernatorial primary that was in progress on Thursday has been postponed halfway.
The gubernatorial primary will now hold tomorrow, Friday, May 22, 2026.
The state APC chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi said he was aware that the national leadership of the party ordered that the primary should be stopped halfway and postponed until tomorrow but however noted that he was yet to get detailed information in respect of reasons for the decision taken by officials of the party at the national level.
‘We don’t have detailed information in respect of reasons for the decision other than the fact that the team from the national secretariat came and instructed that the primary election should hold tomorrow’ he said.

‘The APC Governorship Primary earlier scheduled to hold today, Thursday, 21st May 2026, has been postponed.
The new date for the Governorship Primary is now Friday, 22nd May 2026.
All aspirants, party faithful and members are advised to take note.

Recall that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who is the Sardauna of Ilorin, had on Tuesday announced his decision to endorse Alhaji Abdulfatahi Yahaya Seriki’s candidacy and eight co-aspirants had on Wednesday and early Thursday withdrew from the guber race and joined the governor in declaring support for the top businessman.
Alhaji Yahaya Seriki, had on Wednesday evening, held strategic engagements with co-aspirants and key stakeholders in the state, during which they unanimously resolved to support his candidacy in the interest of party cohesion and continuity of Governor AbdulRazaq’s achievements.
Those who pledged support for Seriki are Dr. Salako Oluwatoyin, Captain Ahmad Mahmoud, Prof Wale Sulaiman, Dr. Mohammed Bio, Dr. Toyin Alabi, Hajia Aisha Patigi, Sen Ibrahim Oloriegbe, and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Salihu Danladi.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to party cohesion, issue-based engagement, and a peaceful primary process capable of further strengthening the APC in the state.
In the meanwhile, party members including people living with disabilities came out in large numbers to participate in the electoral process in Kwara Central Senatorial District.
They began to arrive at their respective voting stations as early as 8:am while voting only began at about 12:noon across the state.
It was quite clear that the odds will favour Alhaji Yahaya Seriki.
At Gambari ward II, Karumo in Ilorin East local government, a blind man, who is an indigene of Sokoto State, Abubakar Gobir told newsmen that he and other APC members were there to participate in the electoral process as loyal party members.
‘We are here with our family members to pay goodness with goodness, we are all here for Yahaya Seriki’ Rufai Yusuf, who is also from Sokoto State, submitted.
At Adewole and Alananmu wards in Ilorin West local government, party members passionately screamed in support of Alhaji Yahaya Seriki’s political aspirations as they chanted ‘Sai Yahaya’ interspersed with ‘APC’
In Kwara South, precisely in Ganmo and Idofian, Alhaji Adebayo Yakeen A.K.A Baba blue, who noted that they had not seen any electoral official to conduct the primary election at voting stations in the two towns said ‘we ordered ourselves to queue up and we counted ourselves and we have since sent the results to party’s leadership in the state’.
However, Mr. Busari Olaiya Lukman Alhaji Mustapha, who is popularly called Leko, urged journalists to disregard Adebayo’s assertions, disclosing that the ward chairman had just left for the state secretariat to pick up electoral materials.



At Adewole Ward where General Manager of Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), Dr. Tejidini Abdulwasiu Olayinkan, Hon Musbau Olodo and Comrade Abdulmajeed AbdulWahab Temidire joined other party members to participate in the electoral process, over 1,500 APC members, who had gathered to participate in the electoral process later left for their homes after the party announced the postponement-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
