PDP Condemns Kwara Govt’s Role In Olusola Adewara’s Defamation Case, Accuses Gov Abdulrazaq Of Trying To Silence Dissenting Voices

Kwara State PDP has condemned in totality the decision taken by a high court judge that its State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Olushola Adewara Sholyment should be remanded in a correctional facility.

Recall that Mr Adewara, who is facing defamation charges, was ordered to be remanded in a correctional facility by Justice T.S Umar of the state High Court, Ilorin on Thursday.

In a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday, May 21, 2026, and made available to Team@orientactual.com by its Assistant State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bashir Ashura, Kwara State PDP described the filing of charges against Hon Adewara at the State High court as a deliberate attempt by the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration to intimidate opposition voices and silence critics of government failures in the state.

The party added that it is deeply unfortunate that a government which has failed woefully in addressing the worsening security situation in the state is now channeling state resources toward the harassment and intimidation of citizens who had dared to speak against its shortcomings.

According to the party, the current administration in the state has continued to plunge the people of Kwara into hardship through poor governance, lack of transparency in public spending, and consistent failure to provide meaningful solutions to the numerous challenges confronting the state.

‘It is condemnable and unacceptable that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose popularity continues to decline across the state due to his administration’s inability to deliver good governance, has resorted to using the instruments of government to victimize opposition members and suppress dissenting voices’ the statement said.

The party further noted that democracy thrives on freedom of expression and not intimidation, political persecution, and the use of state institutions to victimize political enemies.

The party urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to immediately stop the intimidation of opposition and instead come before the people of Kwara to explain why insecurity has continued to escalate on his watch despite huge allocations and public resources available to his administration.

The statement also questioned the government’s priorities, noting that while communities across the state continue to suffer from insecurity, unemployment, poverty, decaying infrastructure, and economic hardship, the government appears more focused on targeting critics than solving the real problems affecting Kwarans.

The PDP restated its commitment to defending democracy, justice, and the constitutional rights of all citizens, stressing that no amount of intimidation or harassment will stop the opposition from speaking truth to power and holding the government accountable to the people while urging security agencies, judiciary and relevant authorities to remain professional and avoid being used as instruments of political oppression against opposition members in the state-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
