Kwara South Senate Seat: I Decided Not To Run For Senate Next Year To Support Lekan Adewoye’s Candidacy-Former Senator Ajadi
Chief Sulaiman Makanjuola Ajadi, who represented Kwara South in the senate from 1999 to 2004, disclosed on Saturday that he took the decision to drop plans to run for senate next year because of his support for Prince Lekan Adewoye’s candidacy.
Prince Lekan Adewoye, who is seeking APC nomination for the 2027 Kwara South senate election, will according to Chief Sulaiman Ajadi not only deliver quality representation but also build on the foundation he had laid as representative of the senatorial district in the senate for five years.
Giving his speech during the declaration ceremony held by the APC senate aspirant at Ajase Ipo Comprehensive High School, Ajase-Ipo on Saturday, Chief Makanjuola Ajadi disclosed that he has maintained an ‘excellent relationship’ with members of the Adewoye family over a long period and he therefore sees Prince Lekan Adewoye’s candidacy as his own project hence the decision not to run for senate next year.

He recalled how the aspirant’s brother, Mr Ben Adewoye supported his candidacy during the 2007 Kwara State gubernatorial election while also adding that as a lecturer at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, he had a good relationship with Prince Lekan Adewoye’s brother and Arandun monarch who were also staff of the institution.
Submitting that Prince Lekan Adewoye possesses positive characteristics that makes him valuable, Chief Makanjuola Ajadi also noted that the APC senate aspirant is humble and takes advice.

The former senator, who noted that he holds the chieftaincy title of Otunba of Arandun, also made a strong statement of confidence that Prince Lekan Adewoye will deliver quality representation.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Barrister Anthony Kayode Towoju, a former Commissioner for Sports, in his welcome speech, asserted that Prince Lekan Adewoye is a uniquely qualified aspirant having impacted lives across the seven local governments in Kwara South while also noting that he has genuine desire to serve the people and ensure better leadership, better opportunities and better representation.

In his declaration speech, Prince Lekan Adewoye promised to be a voice for hopes, struggles, and aspirations of the Kwara South people while submitting that ‘the time for Kwara South to rise is now’ and adding that ‘our senatorial district deserves better’.

‘We cannot continue to have potential without progress. We cannot continue to have representation without results. We cannot continue to wait while others move forward.
Kwara South deserves better—and together, we will demand it, we will build it, and we will achieve it!’ he said.
Prince Lekan Adewoye, who said the decision to throw his hat in the ring was sequel to ‘extensive consultations with our elders, our youths, our women, our traditional institutions, and stakeholders across every corner of our district’, also noted that it is not about politics as usual, empty promises or personal ambition but rather about the people of the senatorial district.
‘It is about the farmer who labours without support. It is about the youth who has energy but no opportunity. It is about the mother who worries about her children’s future.
It is about communities still waiting for roads, light, water, and security. My people, enough is enough!’ he submitted.
He also talked about his ‘legislative agenda’ that will according to him serve as a platform to improve the lives of the people of the senatorial district.
‘My vision is simple, clear, and actionable: A prosperous, secure, and self-reliant Kwara South.
And let me be clear—this will not be achieved by talk. It will be achieved by work. Real work. Measurable work. In the Senate, I will not be a silent voice. I will not be an absent representative.
I will not be a figurehead. I will be your advocate. Your defender. Your voice! We will push for laws that create jobs—not just headlines.
We will ensure federal projects are not just approved—but completed. We will make sure Kwara South is not ignored—but prioritized.
And beyond the Senate floor, we will act: We will create real opportunities for our youths and women—so talent does not go to waste.
We will rebuild confidence in education—so our children can compete anywhere in the world.
We will turn agriculture into big business—so our farmers can prosper. We will fight for better roads, stable electricity, and clean water—because our people deserve dignity.
We will strengthen security—because no society can grow in fear. We will improve healthcare—because life must be valued everywhere, not just in the cities.
And we will support our local businesses—because prosperity must begin at home’ he said.
Prince Lekan Adewoye also asserted that he has the required experience to serve the people of Kwara South and deliver quality representation while promising to be ‘accessible, accountable and available’.
‘I am not coming to learn the job—I am coming prepared.
I have worked within the real economy. I understand what it takes to create jobs, to attract investment, and to deliver results. And I am ready to put that experience to work for you from day one’ he said.
In his goodwill speech, Dr. Lanre Abdul Folorunso, who is the Taiyese of Offa, noted that the Ekiti bloc, had occupied the parliament seat for 12 years while the Ibolo bloc that took over in 2015, will be completing its 12 years in 2027 and in order to promote fairness and equity, an Igbomina person should according to him be chosen as representative of the senatorial district in 2027.
